ARTIST STATEMENT
" What do we perceive as balance? This has been a recurring theme in my work for the last decade. Regardless of whether the inspiration comes from day-to-day life or something more universal, there are basically two options: in - or out - of balance. Most of my work can certainly be said to point to the first, but there is often a twist to it.
I like to combine abstract and figurative elements, often with the purpose of giving the piece the ability to communicate something coherent. For me it is about putting the piece in a context where it can speak for itself. Of course, this can be said about any art, but this is more about a tangible understanding, like the answer to why the piece has the title it does. I often work across different disciplines, but my primary focus is on sculpture, collage and printmaking. There is nearly always an obsessive focus on composition, regardless of material or subject matter. It may be characterized as a perfectionistic trait, so perhaps this is one reason why balance is such an exciting topic to me?" |
