ARTIST STATEMENT
" What do we perceive as balance? This has been a recurring theme in my work for the last decade. Regardless of whether the inspiration comes from day-to-day life or something more universal, the work often triggers some form of recognition. Such closeness, or experiencing a sense of affinity with the message in the work, is important to me.
The combining of abstract and figurative elements also reflects a desire to communicate something tangible and coherent. So even if the piece in itself does not provide any immediate clues, the title is designed to give the viewer a specific experience. Thus the theme “Balance” is revisited in various ways. I often work across different disciplines, but my primary focus is on sculpture, collage and printmaking. There is nearly always an obsessive focus on composition, regardless of material or subject matter. It may be charecterized as an perfectionistic nature, so perhaps this is one reason why balance is such an exciting topic?" |
